The Meridian girls basketball season has surpassed the five-month mark but shows no sign of burnout, crushing New Kent on Friday night, 75-33.

The student section was packed with students donned in gray for the “groutfit” theme, while players’ families and community members filled the rest of the stands.

Meridian led New Kent 34-15 at halftime. The Mustangs now have a record of 22 wins and 1 loss.

Junior Peyton Jones led the team with 19 points, followed by senior Megan Tremblay with 16 points, senior Bella Paradiso with 14 points, and Zoraida Icabalceta with 12 points.

“We know that if we play our game and defense like we’ve been playing, then we have a good shot at advancing into the state finals,” Jones said.

The team will move onto state semi-finals tonight, Mar. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Meridian gym against Lakeland High School. Lakeland’s current record is 15-5.
