Looking for an opportunity to serve the Falls Church community? The annual Service Learning Fair recently came to GM to show students all the service programs that are offered to GM students. If you missed this year’s fair, service opportunities are still very much an option and below are the organizations that were represented.
New organizations who attended this year’s Service Learning Fair:
Liberty in North Korea (LINK), GMHS branch: LINK is a group that seeks to end the oppressive regime and the restoration of basic rights in North Korea, which impacts the 24 million people who call North Korea home.
Friends of Falls Church Homeless Shelter: The Friends of Falls Church Homeless Shelter seek to provide a warm meal and a place to sleep during the cold, bitter months of winter for those who are homeless, as well as weekly life skills classes.
Falls Church City Public Works: The goal of the FCCPW is to provide a safe, green, and clean environment while sustaining and enhancing our infrastructure.
Falls Church Education Foundation: The FCEF strives to “effectively” prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century.

Citizens for a Better City (CBC): Students On Boards and Commissions – Interested in having a say in your local government? The CBC has a program that allows students themselves to be on various boards and commissions within the city.
Columbia Baptist Food Pantry and Gardens: Columbia Baptist believes in helping and creating relationships with the hungry, in a warm and welcoming environment.
Falls Church Arts/Halloween Paint-In: Paint halloween-themed artwork on the windows of local businesses just in time for Halloween!
Falls Church AAUW Book Sale: Books, books, books! Books for cooks, historians, children, and bargain hunters alike. Occurs annually.
Falls Church-McLean Children??s Center: Delivering a high quality and comprehensive early-childhood program that builds a strong foundation for the rest of their lives.
For Love of Children: Want to tutor someone about math or reading? There are children in DC who need your help in math or reading. Make a difference in their lives by tutoring!
Mary Riley Styles Public Library: Want to help out the local library? There are plenty of ways to help, including ways that are accepted by our school’s IB community service requirements!
Mount Daniel HUGS Homework Club: Want to help students at Mount Daniel? Use your knowledge to help younger children get a great start in the subjects you already know! Volunteer with HUGS to tutor the students at Mount Daniel.
Village Preservation & Improvement Society (VPIS): Feel passionate about how our community looks and the way of life of Falls Church? Help VPIS in their efforts to do such things, and bring these issues to our government with VPIS.
George Mason High School Service Clubs
Amnesty International: Interested in Human Rights? Meet the George Mason branch of AI and participate in the efforts of protecting and defending human rights.
Best Buddies: Interested in making friends with and supporting those who are intellectually disabled? Amongst other options, Best Buddies pairs you up with a IDD student to be friends with all year!
H.D. Cooke Partnership: Wanting to help those who are disadvantaged in the District of Columbia? Join those at Mason who help at H.D. Cooke Elementary School with tutoring and more.
Gay/Straight Alliance: The Gay-Straight Alliance at George Mason strives to end transphobia and homophobia in our community. Join the Mason GSA in helping LGBTQ students get support.
Spanish Culture Club: Need any help in Spanish? Don’t be afraid to drop by and meet students just like you who can help you understand Spanish.
H.O.P.E: H.O.P.E helps disadvantaged students get scholarships to complete their education and succeed in life.
Environmental Club: Join the Environmental Club and help projects such as landscaping and growing in the outside Senior Alcove, along with other important projects.
Key Club: Help organize food drives, help clean parks, and help clean clothes for the needy along with other ways in helping our community and serving the children of the world.?
SCA: Meet members of the SCA of George Mason and familiarize yourself about what the SCA does at Mason.
Pinocchio Creche: Help kids with school readiness and learning life skills, along with reaching their potential.
Stage Crew: Want to be a star in the play but do not want to act? Simply join Stage Crew, who do important jobs from set-building to audio and light management. Help many events with your technical skills, including the play.
Whether you need CAS hours, NHS hours, resume depth, or just want to volunteer, there are plenty of organizations who value the service of GM students. Happy volunteering!
