9. The Mandalorian

“The Mandalorian” is a newly released Star Wars franchised show. A lone bounty hunter ventures out into the outskirts of the galaxy, far from the authority of the New Republic. The show is set after the fall of the Empire and before the First Order and is only available on Disney Plus.

8. The Good Place

In “The Good Place,” Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell) wakes up in the afterlife and is introduced to heaven, due to her previous, well-lived life. Through the people she meets in heaven, she is determined to shed her previous ways of life in the real world, and become a better person. Season 4 premiered in September on NBC and received a Peabody award later that month.

7. Euphoria

The first season of “Euphoria” aired this June and won a People’s Choice Award for Best Drama Actress in a Series. The TV series, starring Zendaya, follows a group of teen kids and shows their struggles through drugs, alcohol, relationships and the struggles of modern high schoolers.

6. Black Mirror

The science-fiction British TV series tells different stories each episode, all reflecting on the negative consequences that our developing technology will cause in the world. This futuristic, dystopian Netflix Original first aired in 2011 and has received a 9/10 rating on IMDb.

5. Game of Thrones

“Game of Thrones,” an HBO series, released its series finale, in the show’s eighth season, this spring. The fantasy series tells the story of Medieval noble family’s battle for the Iron Throne. This year, it was named the most-watched HBO show ever.

4. Orange Is the New Black

“Orange Is the New Black,” tells the story of a privileged woman, Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), who is sentenced to prison for 15 months because of her past deals with a drug dealer. The comedy/drama series released its 7th and final season this year and received a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

3. Jane the Virgin

“Jane the Virgin,” tells the story of Jane Villanueva (played by Gina Rodriguez), a devout Catholic who finds out from her doctor that she has been accidentally artificially inseminated. The fifth and final season of “Jane the Virgin” was released this March. The show started in 2014 and has received a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

2.   Atypical

“Atypical” focuses on 18-year-old Sam Gardner’s (Keir Gilchrist) life being on the autism spectrum. Sam is beginning to become more independent and gets a girlfriend, which then leads his mom (struggling to tell what’s right or not for him. The Netflix Original series’ third season was released this November and is being renewed for a 4th season next year.

1. Stranger Things

The third season of the Netflix Original, “Stranger Things” was released on July 4. The show is set in a fictional town, Hawkins, Indiana, in the 1980s. In the show, a group of teens work together to defeat the supernatural threats of the Upside Down. The show won The Show of 2019 and won Drama Show of the Year during the People’s Choice Awards in November.
