With busy nights of homework and the cool fall months upon us, there’s nothing better than spending the weekend relaxing with your favorite show. But many of us spent the spring and summer days binging away, and are in need of a new favorite. One of the Lasso’s features teams put together their best suggestions:
1. Designated Survivor (3 Seasons)
Designated Survivor is the perfect political thriller for those who enjoy action and problem-solving. The show follows Tom Kirkman, a low-level cabinet member who, after an unexpected terrorist attack at the State of the Union address, suddenly becomes president of the United States. As one of the few survivors, he struggles to keep the country from crumbling. Throughout the first season, Kirkman attempts to rebuild the government and begins the search for the people responsible for the attack.

2. Selling Sunset (3 Seasons)
If you’re looking for your new favorite reality tv show, look no further. Netflix’s Selling Sunset features two brothers and business partners, Jason and Brett Oppenheim, and their glamorous set of realtors who help sell some of the biggest homes in LA. If watching these dramatic ladies try to sell multi-million dollar properties doesn’t interest you, then viewing realtor Christine Quinn’s outrageous and over the top outfits in every episode surely will.

3. Criminal Minds (15 Seasons)
If you’re looking for a long show to binge every night, Criminal minds has 15 seasons full of murder mysteries and crime solving. The show is completed and the first 12 seasons can be found on Netflix and the whole series can be found on CBS All Access. Each episode features an FBI team solving a different mystery and drama between different members of the team. You can just watch single episodes for the crime aspect, or you can tune into the full drama.

4. Euphoria (1 Season)
Euphoria follows the lives of different high school students dealing with anxiety, drug abuse, and social media. The show stars Zendaya, who recently won an Emmy for her role (becoming the youngest winner of the best lead actress in a drama role category), as well as other famous faces like Jacob Elordi, Storm Reid, and Sydney Sweeney. Disclaimer: the show deals with mental health issues that may be triggering.

5. Stranger Things (3 Seasons)
Although Stranger Things isn’t exactly a new show, it’s one that’s definitely worth a watch or rewatch for those of us who have already seen it. Stranger Things follows a group of awkward teenagers and their families in the 1980’s when suddenly their friend goes missing. The plot is full of twists and turns and it’s always bound to keep you at the edge of your seat. Although a little spooky at times, it’s a fun show that’s definitely recommended by The Lasso.

6. Parks and Rec (7 Seasons)
As the local and federal elections heat up, tune in to this sit-com following the Parks and Recreation department of the city government of Pawnee, Indiana. Parks and Rec is a family favorite with a star-studded comedic cast. The show left Netflix on October 1st, so hop on over to Peacock, NBC’s new streaming service which broadcasts Parks and Rec for free, to see all seven seasons in all their glory. Plus, you can visit NBC.com to watch the quarantine reunion of your favorite Pawneeans.

7. Schitt’s Creek (6 Seasons)
If you watched the Emmys, you basically watched a celebration of Schitt’s Creek. Funny, quirky, and six seasons long, this is the perfect show if you need a pick-me-up. The story follows the Roses, a wealthy family with pampered lives, that lose everything and are forced to pack up and move to Schitt’s Creek, a town David Rose, the father of the family, bought for his son, David, as a joke. Watch it with your family or on your own– no matter what, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll learn some incredible style tips from every member of the Rose family.

8. How to Get Away with Murder (6 Seasons)
Originally aired by ABC in 2014, How to Get Away with Murder is perfect for fans of mysteries, thrillers, and dramas. Now streaming on Netflix, the show follows Annalise Keating, a law professor and criminal defense attorney, and her five student interns as they get caught up in the investigation of the disappearance of a student at their college. How to Get Away with Murder’s drama-filled court cases and thrilling cliffhangers will keep you watching until the end.

9. Avatar: The Last Airbender (3 Seasons)
Yes, Avatar: The Last Airbender is technically a Nickelodeon kids show, however it never fails to stay interesting. Netflix added the show to it’s collection over quarantine and it’s been keeping people busy ever since. Avatar follows a young boy named Aang on his journey to stop the evil Fire Nation from taking over the world. Each episode has equal parts nostalgia and adventure, perfect for a time like this. It’s full of funny, heartfelt, and sweet moments that will keep you coming for more.

10. Sherlock (4 Seasons)
Even though Sherlock was originally released in 2010, you might consider watching it, or rewatching it, given that a spin-off movie was released on September 23. Available on Netflix, Sherlock is a more contemporary version of the British stories that were originally written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and follows Sherlock Holmes and John Watson as they work to solve some of the greatest mysteries of their time. Netflix also released Enola Holmes late September, a movie about Sherlock’s younger sister, played by Millie Bobby Brown.

11. American Horror Story (8 Seasons)
If you love scary movies and shows, American Horror Story is definitely for you. Each season has its own separate plot from the last, but they’re all scary in their own way. Season 1 has us following a family in the legendary “Murder House” where most the residents of the house have died in terrifying ways. The ghosts stay around to lurk the halls and either harm or scare away the next occupants of the house. With every episode you can’t help but wonder, “is this family going to make it out alive?” There are also a few more notable seasons of AHS, including Asylum, Coven, Cult, Apocalypse, and 1984 (not yet out on Netflix).

12. The Great British Baking Show (7 Seasons)
If you’ve never spent a rainy Sunday afternoon bundled up in blankets, watching The Great British Baking Show, you’re missing out. Available on Netflix, each season of the show follows twelve amateur bakers competing for the title of “Great Britain’s best baker.” The contestants take stabs at baking bread, pastries, elaborate cakes, and much more before facing the judgement of Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, two talented celebrity chefs. With a new season airing right now, it’s the perfect show to watch with a steaming cup of tea and some freshly baked scones.
