Birch and Broad: What’s to come?

Isabel Costa, Managing Editor

Birch and Broad, festive for the holiday season. (Isabel Costa)

Birch and Broad (formerly Falls Plaza) has long been a favorite of students walking home from both Meridian and Henderson. The shopping center has been under construction since the beginning of the summer, and the development is getting ready to fully reopen with several new businesses and a new look.

The entire shopping center has been designed to be more pedestrian friendly. This means bigger sidewalks, cleaner landscaping, and more seating. There’s even a large fireplace for diners to eat outdoors in any weather.

In addition to an updated facade, several new businesses will be opening this winter. Here are the new businesses that have signed leases with Birch and Broad:

Taco Rock

The Birch and Broad Taco Rock will be the third Taco Rock to open, with other locations in Arlington and Fairfax County. It’s both a restaurant and a sports bar, and is a great place to catch up on football, soccer, or even your favorite game shows. Besides tacos, the restaurant also sells several other Mexican foods, Mexican sodas, and ramen. Taco Rock will be in the spot that formerly held Baja Fresh.

Aqua-Tots Swim School

Aqua-Tots Swim School will be moving into the space where Goldfish Swim School used to be. They will offer swim lessons for young children and could be a potential job opportunity for Falls Church teens.

Crumbl Cookies in an exciting addition to the Little City. Look at their variety of goods! (Isabel Costa)

Crumbl Cookies

Crumbl is a nationwide chain that sells a variety of cookie flavors. In addition to their permanent chocolate chip and sugar cookies, Crumbl sells 4 unique cookies that change each week and often follow fun themes. Their cookies are very large and are perfect for sharing with friends. The store is moving in between Jersey Mike’s Subs and Domino’s Pizza.

Bolay Fresh and Bold Kitchen

This restaurant is originally from Florida, and its Falls Church location will be its first store in another state. This restaurant offers build-your-own bowls as well as specialty bowls with a variety of foods like rice, noodles, salad, meats, tofu, and more. They aim to promote a healthier version of fast food through great flavors and quick service. Bolay is opening next to Plaka Grill.
