Have you ever wondered what your teachers listen to? If Mrs. Hawkesworth rocks out to hip-hop on the way to work? Or if, beneath that unsuspecting aura, Dr. Mecca jams out to reggae? In this new feature, “Mustang Mixes,” we’ll bring you a bit closer to your teachers through their choice in music. This week: Mr. Brad McAdam, counselor.
“Jesus, etc.” by Wilco: “[This is] My absolute favorite song of all time. [Wilco is] my favorite band. Initially they started as kind of an alt country band but really they’re just a rock band now. I don’t know, I just love their song writing…it speaks to me.”
“Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” by U2: “I’m trying to think of my favorite bands…I’ve never done a top five but I love U2. This is one of my favorite U2 songs.”
“Piano Man” by Billy Joel: “This is really cheesy and somewhat embarrassing…but back in the day I used to listen to a lot of Billy Joel so I think Piano Man is one of my favorite songs. I haven’t thought of it, it probably wouldn’t be right now but I think in my life it probably would be one of my favorite songs.”
“Intergalactic” by the Beastie boys: “There’s so many so many different bands that I like. I’m a big Beastie Boys fan. [When I listen to music] I use mostly Spotify…and sometimes Pandora. When I’m at home I’ll put it on the TV.”
“Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye: “The songs that I like on Spotify is a combination of Radiohead, Wilco, some of The Shins, The Decembrists…stuff like that. I think they would probably call that alternative. I feel like most music is alternative now, unless it’s, like, Taylor Swift or something insanely popular. One time I never listen to music, oddly enough, is in my car. I usually listen to podcasts.”
