Editorial: The definitive best Halloween candy, 2022 edition
November 3, 2022
Welcome to the fourth annual edition of our picks for the best Halloween candy. In the last three years, we have consistently disagreed on the superior Halloween candy, a pattern that continues today. Here are this year’s picks:
Stella (Editor-in-Chief): Without a doubt, Kit Kats are the superior Halloween candy. For all the chocolate lovers out there (and quite frankly, if you don’t like chocolate, you don’t exist in my mind), a Kit Kat is the perfect combination of crunchy wafer and smooth milk chocolate, and not even the worst of KitKat disparagers could convince me otherwise. Enjoy its deliciousness after a satisfying break – or, if you prefer, take a bite out of the whole thing and watch as your friends cower from your psychopathy.
Isabel (Managing Editor): I’m having trouble believing that Stella thinks Kit Kats (the most average candy ever) are a top pick when Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups exist. Chocolate and peanut butter is a classic combination that will reign supreme until the end of time. Peanut butter cups are delicious whether melted and smushed at the bottom of a backpack or frozen from a long walk home on Halloween. This combo of simple but powerful is a flavor combination that simply can’t be beat.
Clara (Managing Editor): It might be a super basic choice, but there’s a reason why Reese’s Peanut butter Cups is one of the most popular candies and my own personal favorite. The peanut butter-to-chocolate ratio goes absolutely perfectly with a cool Halloween night. I’d also highly recommend leaving peanut butter cups in the freezer overnight for a different variety of the classic candy. The frozen peanut butter is truly a riveting experience that everyone must try this Halloween.
Elizabeth (Public Relations Editor): There’s a reason why Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups continue to stand out year after year. They contain the perfect combination of peanut butter and chocolate, which brings to light the impeccable salty and sweet flavoring. I would also like to distinguish myself from the other editors by emphasizing that seasonal Reese’s are far superior to their standard form. I personally love the Easter and Christmas versions, but the Halloween pumpkin-shaped Reese’s are still immaculate.
Kaylah (News Editor): Without a doubt, the best Halloween candy takes the mini form of a candy classic. Mini gummy bears, more specifically the mini Haribo gummy bears that come in the miniature clear and gold packaging. Some may say “Why mini gummy bears? Why not the regular-sized gummy bears?” It is simple: they just do not compare. Mini gummy bears are 10 times better than the regular bears. No one can tell me otherwise.
Molly (Features Editor): I don’t think I could go more than one week without Twizzlers. While this article is focused on Halloween, Twizzlers deserve attention year-round. Anyone who disagrees definitely has never tried them but just doesn’t want to admit it. They are perfectly sweet, chewy, come in multiple lengths and flavors, and never disappoint.
Abby (Features Editor): I truly feel sorry for those with any sort of distaste or an allergy to peanut butter because they will never be able to experience the joy that is a Reese’s peanut butter cup.
Preston (Opinion Editor): Though it may spark some controversy, it is clear that M&M’s are the best Halloween candy. M&M’s are a Halloween classic, candies that have been served to hankering trick-or-treaters since 1941. However, M&M’s aren’t just original; these bite-sized treats are also both scrumptious and mouthwatering. The way the hard, sugar-coated candy shell melts in your mouth is simply an unmatched feeling. Even better, the sweetness of the milk chocolate makes this candy the tastiest goody one could imagine. Not to mention, these M&M packages come with 10 – 15 pieces.
