Recently some changes have taken place in the library, led by the efforts of the librarian Logan Russo. With a passion for creating a welcoming environment for all students, Ms. Russo has implemented a series of changes to make the library more entertaining and cozy.
Ms. Russo introduced a range of activities for students to enjoy and pass the time. Students have various options, including ‘this/that’ voting games, puzzles, coloring, StickTogether posters, and seasonal activities. The activities allow students to relax and take a break from doing work in a welcoming environment.
Additionally, the librarians have put a new emphasis on safety thanks to the addition of a sign-in kiosk. Ms. Russo stressed the importance of being able to monitor who is coming in and out of the library.
“This is important in the event of an emergency but also helps us learn students’ names and collect data about who is visiting the library and why.”
As well as ensuring student safety and making the library a relaxing place, Ms. Russo is on a mission to update the library’s book collection.
“I hope to give away or recycle outdated books and purchase new books to reflect students’ interests,” Ms. Russo said.
She has added a book recommendation form on Schoology and the school website, allowing the librarians to implement student requests to the library’s selection.
Ms. Russo also started the Library Advisory Club to help make the library more student-centered. Students can actively shape library programs and displays by participating in the club. Speaking up can help students make the library a place that represents their needs and interests and participate in the decision-making process.
“I am starting the Library Advisory Club to incorporate more student voices into the library, especially when it comes to activities and displays,” she said.
Ms. Russo continues to influence positive change in our library, and her dedication to creating an inclusive and engaging space for all students is inspiring.
