Disney announced that they would release the remake of Snow White on March 22, 2024. Unfortunately, due to many issues with production, the release date was delayed to March 21, 2025. Some of these problems include difficult actors, critics on casting, and political controversies.
Rachel Zegler, who plays Snow White, is known to be opinionated and outspoken. She was willing to delay production if she disagreed with something. Her reputation for being uncooperative has caused criticism about making it difficult for directors, producers, and co-stars to work with her.
Zegler defended herself from statements and opinions which caused delays for the production of Snow White, explaining that she disagreed with many choices the directors made, and she felt they needed to be overhauled. She also continuously criticized the original Snow White movie.
There were also ongoing tensions between Zegler and her co-star Gal Gadot. Zegler was supporting Palestine, but her co-star, Gal Gadot, is Israeli. In addition, controversy about the casting for the dwarfs got in the way of shooting, because the producers cast people that were taller or the same height as Snow White however, in the original film the dwarfs were shorter compared to Snow White. Opinions from the dwarfism community said they felt that it took away potential jobs for dwarfism actors.
The amount of controversies that surround the movie has caused a decreased interest in the movie itself. When the remake finally came out, it faced many disappointed reviews
The controversies clearly took a toll on the final film. The Snow White movie was overall a huge disappointment and I had higher expectations, because of the long wait due to controversies, tensions, and disagreements. Gadot’s performance didn’t have enough energy, and she didn’t seem to fit the role of the evil queen due to her lack of musical theater training.
Additionally, the height and personalities of the dwarfs were altered, so the plot’s connection to the original was not as strong. The production should’ve had better casting that wouldn’t cause the controversy and tension which leads to many delays. The movie should’ve been canceled to begin with after so many delays and controversies surrounding it.
