A good horror movie is hard to find, but when you find one, it is a perfect wrap up to your evening. Many horror movie lists don’t include recent horror movies along with the older classics. Below, are 10 of the most spine-chilling horror movies from the 70s to today.
- Poltergeist (2015)

Their new house in the suburbs of Illinois seems like any other average home. That is until Amy and Eric Bowen discover that their youngest daughter, Maddy’s imaginary friends might not actually be imaginary. Soon after, all three children are attacked by supernatural forces one after another. Fom trees crashing through windows to horrifying clowns which all lead to the sinister spirits taking Maddy captive.
- Curse of Chucky (2013)

The Curse of Chucky is a classic horror movie full of both comedy and action. Chucky always enters his victim’s homes as an innocent looking doll, but by the time he leaves, there are several corpses behind him in every direction. A cute doll becoming a sadistic serial killer is every child’s nightmare, which is what makes Curse of Chucky a great film.
- The Orphanage (2007)

Laura, her husband, and her son move into her childhood orphanage that was full of nothing but happy and joyful memories. Her son, Simon, is critically ill and spends his time playing with his imaginary friends. One day Simon disappears, and a few months later, he is presumed dead. However, Laura refuses to believe that her son is dead. She begins to hear spirits in which she believes are leading her to her son.

After watching a sinister videotape full of grim images, the viewer will receive a phone call that foretells the viewer’s death which will occur seven days after watching the tape. A Newspaper reporter, Rachel Keller is hesitant to believe this story, until four teenagers die exactly one week after watching this tape. This event drives Rachel to watch it for herself in order to discover the truth behind the obscure tape.

After a young girl named Regan plays with a ouija board, she starts acting in a strange manner. Her mother becomes worried and seeks medical help. Doctors are clueless, so her mother hires a priest to perform a life-threatening exorcism.
- IT (1990)

Nothing is scarier than a monstrous clown on the loose. IT is back and it’s up to the Loser Club to kill Pennywise once and for all. The Loser Club members are the only ones who have survived encounters with Pennywise the clown, which makes it their obligation of ending all of the havoc Pennywise has created. Unfortunately, they have forgotten their occurrences and must regain their memories in order to kill Pennywise and save the children of the Town of Derry.

Jack, an author hoping to regain his writing abilities becomes a temporary caretaker at an isolated hotel, bringing his wife and his son along with him. Danny, his son, starts experiencing visions that seem to get more and more ominous. As that happens, Jack unravels mysteries of the hotel which lead him to go insane and become a threat to his family.

A murder mystery author moves himself and his family into a home where an entire family mysteriously died. He then discovers old footage providing clues about different past unsolved deaths in which he believes are somehow connected. Will his death be the next addition to the tapes?
- The Babadook (2014)

When a restless widow reads her 6 year old son, Samuel, an unusual story called “Mister Babadook”, strange events begin to happen. Samuel’s behavior becomes more and more erratic and aggressive as he insists the monster in the story is real. His mother refuses to admit that there is a threat in their house, but as she starts to notice sinister activity in her home she begins to open up her mind to the possibility that her son is telling the truth.

The youngest daughter in a family of four kids begins to experience supernatural occurrences after playing with a ouija board. The mother’s claims of her daughter’s possessions begin to go viral, and catches the attention of two famous paranormal investigators, Lorraine and Ed Warren. They come in an attempt to protect the family and to determine if their accusations are true or false.
