In this series by Lasso editor, Kate Karstens, well-known senior iconic duos in Mason are featured. This week, the spotlight is on Anna DuBro and Maeve Donnelly. If you believe that you are a member of an iconic duo or know of one, please email [email protected].
It’s not uncommon to see seniors Anna DuBro and Maeve Donnelly hunched over their phone, amused by seemingly incomprehensible memes and references to their sleepovers from elementary school. For the past 12 years, the two have been laughing (probably at you) inside and outside of Falls Church City Public School walls.
On descriptions:
Maeve: “Anna is annoying. Wait, maybe passionate.”
Anna: “That’s lame.”
Maeve: “Then tell me what to put.”
Anna: “I’m thinking, God.”
Meave: “Stop taking so long.”
Anna: “Well, Maeve is nice.”
Maeve: “That’s even worse than the ones I gave!”
On advice:
Maeve: “I always tell her ‘don’t text that boy back.’ ”
Anna: “I say I’m not going to and then I do.”
Maeve: “You always text him back”
Anna: “Maeve never asks my opinion.”
Maeve: “Anna’s never giving me advice because I have my life together.”
On friendship:
Maeve: “My favorite thing about Anna is that she’s not afraid to speak her mind. She has very strong opinions and she stands by them.”
Anna: “Aw, Maeve, my heart is growing three sizes.”
Maeve: “So you’re the Grinch, basically.”
On celebrity comparisons:
Anna: “Maeve is the Wicked Witch of the West and I am Glinda.”
Maeve: “We used to be obsessed with Wicked.”
Anna: “What do you mean used to? I have the CD in my car. Let’s go right now.”
On the future:
Anna: “Bridesmaids.”
Maeve: “Classic. I’m visiting you every weekend in college. Even if you don’t want me there.”
Anna: “Our kids will be friends, like a cousin relationship. We’ve always known that we would stay friends after school.”
Maeve: “It’s a given.”
Anna: “Distance doesn’t do anything. Technology helps…we share hella memes.”
On what makes them iconic:
Anna: “What doesn’t?”
