For 10 years, the Entrepreneurs’ Club has been working hard towards benefiting the George Mason community. Not only does this club encourage the entrepreneurial drive in young students who are part of the club, but it also helps support other clubs by providing financial aid.
“We work to spread the wealth around Mason and give clubs opportunities to do what they want,” club director of marketing and senior Ahmed Elzamzami said.
About twice a month, the club meets in Mr. Pikrallidas’s room to discuss the fundraisers they are planning to hold that will make money to feed into the improvement of the other clubs at Mason. So far this school year, the club attempted to hold a bake sale in December, but it was canceled due to conflicts.
However, this did not discourage the members. The club plans on holding a bake sale in March to accumulate money that will give cash flow into the Entrepreneurs’ Club and help them pump out financial help for clubs that apply for grants. Last year, the club made a sizable donation towards the Fire Drill Picnic, which they hope to do again this coming spring.
“For the students that are in the club, even if it’s just one little thing that helps something click in their head and they start their own business, I think we have achieved our goal,” club vice president and senior Viraj Suri said.
It all began with a student who asked their IB Business Class teacher, Chris Pikrallidas, to sponsor a club that would participate in philanthropic practice. The Entrepreneurs’ Club has grown since it started in 2007, and has continued to impress the Mason community. There are about 15 current members, but new members are always welcomed.
“The leaders of the club want to foster that entrepreneurial drive in people and get them to find their own ways to make money and benefit the community,” Suri said.
The GM Entrepreneurs’ Club opens a window for not only personal benefit, but for the opportunity to help others as well.
