Who is Kiera Please?
A closer look at up-and-coming female artists
October 15, 2018
What happens when you mix a space-like R&B melody with a trap beat and a smooth-like-caramel voice? You get Kiera Please, a 22-year-old female artist from Virginia who is also a producer and singer/songwriter. In a text conversation with Elevator Magazine she says, “As far as music. I’ve had a semi musical background. Not with singing. But I played piano for years, dabbled in making beats and singing was something I liked to do but never thought I could for some reason. My friend Tofu Jack, who’s a producer, heard me sing one day and just asked me to sing over a beat and I kinda discovered how much I loved the process and act of it. And here we are… still finding new things about myself.”
I first found Kiera Please on my Spotify recommended playlist. The song that I first found was titled “Bloom”, a song about how it takes time and patience to change and see the potential in yourself. As soon as I heard this SZA-like tune, I fell in love with the R&B/Trap/Pop genre that radiated from it. Although rough around the edges, the playful melodies mixed in with her unique voice and completely erased any doubts I had about her. After listening to, and analyzing “Bloom”, I went to her Soundcloud and YouTube accounts, where I found even more tracks that she produced and sang on. In May of this year, she put out a song called “Space Song” and prior to that, she produced three other songs that can be found on her Soundcloud.
Kiera Please has so much potential in the music world. The more music she makes, the better she will be and the more comfortable she will be with her own sound and design. The RNB world should watch out for this artist because she brings something new and refreshing to the table.
