With six matches under their belt, the George Mason Golf team is coming to the end of their regular season. With mostly individual successes, being that most of the golf players have improved in one way or another on their routines and shots, the whole team is registering one win and five losses thus far.
“This season has had its ups and downs.” said senior Noah Anderson.
Coach Chris Carrico stated that he would like to see either the entire team or at least two to three individual players make it to regionals. The team will find out on September 29, when George Mason competes at their conference tournament against four other teams. The top two teams will move on to regionals. Seniors Noah Anderson and Daniel Schlitt both hope to make a run for regionals, as either the whole team or individually.
“The first time I came out and played during tryouts I lost a couple of balls in the woods, but now I’m hitting a drive straight, hitting fairways, and hitting greens.” said freshman Nicholas Wells.
Wells’ improvement may be due in part to an active practice and routine schedule. Practice is held four times a week Monday through Thursday and Coach Carrico tries to mix it up with practices focusing on different aspects of golf.
One fact remains, that both the players and Coach Carrico view their team as having a very friendly atmosphere. Despite limited success this year, Coach Carrico is focusing on building a team that will remain competitive and consistent.
