As of Monday, there are 30 tweets using the hashtag MBCGMHS. Students, teachers, coaches, administration and other faculty members began tweeting what they thought showed achievements in excelling in mind, body, and character. “What I want is a gradual recognition for this project, I’m not expecting it to latch on right away,” said SCA President Blaise Sevier. From the first time they walk through the doors of George Mason, students are repeatedly encouraged to excel in mind, body, and character. While the ideas are important to the GM community, students haven’t truly been able to express this work until now, with the hashtag #MBCGMHS (Mind, Body, Character at George Mason High School), spreading over social media.
The SCA is encouraging students, teachers, coaches, and administrators to post any action they think shows students excelling in those three elements, using #MBCGMHS on Twitter.
Posts that use #MBCGMHS count as nominations for project MBC and are automatically entered in a monthly drawing. These posts will be sorted and then they will be randomly chosen for a prize, which will be announced on the last school day of each month.
According to Project MBC coordinator, Diana Kim, “Prizes may include a parking pass, Mason gear, gift cards to local restaurants, and more.”
“This [project] is the ability to recognize the success that Mason has in all aspects,” said SCA President, Blaise Sevier. “Not just in athletics and not just in how academically successful we are. It truly shows a well-rounded student body.”
This is a new, innovative way to get students to act through this slogan that has been encouraged for years. With #MBCGMHS, students can show their hard work in a way that is more familiar and appeals to 21st century students.
