Relaxing. This would not be the term that seniors typically use to describe these first couple weeks of the year.
Sitting deep in college essays, transcript requests, interviews, and the typical load of homework a night, the idea of relaxing just doesn’t fit into a day. However, time for relaxing did occur for seniors, on Wednesday, October 14, while all underclassmen took the PSAT.
After two hours of seminars, seniors were rewarded with a “senior picnic” for nearly two and a half hours. Music blared, while administrators grilled hot dogs/hamburgers, and seniors were let free to run around on the turf field with PE equipment, socialize with friends, or just lay down on the warm turf for a power nap.
While the freedom went longer than anticipated, the extra time gave seniors a chance to remember what it is like to enjoy friends and let loose for a bit, before going back to the busy realities of college applications and academics.
This is the first time that GM has implemented this idea during PSAT day, and The Lasso commends the administration for planning this day.
A lot of the fun relaxing activities happen during second semester, which is still beneficial, but by then seniors typically have gotten into college and are feeling a little less stressed. However, these first couple months of school are truly a crazy time for seniors, and relaxing event like this makes a difference.
