Meridian High School’s new French club embodies the wholeness of French culture. French music in the air, colorful grammar posters on the wall, and a large French flag in the middle of the room, students are transported outside of the U.S. for the duration of the club meeting.
The French club held its first meeting on Thursday, February 15, led by juniors Hugo Ratheau and Allie Zagorski, and seniors Julia Wolf and Kaylah Curley. Vibrant and welcoming, the French Club is perfect for those who want to practice French.
“We want to create a space where you can all get tutoring and provide help on assignments, all while still learning together…and appreciating the language,” junior Allie Zagorski said.
Currently the only language club at Meridian, the French Club is bursting with French culture, guided by a diverse leadership board, a colorful French classroom, and fun French treats.
As the club is newly formed, the structure of it is still up in the air. The leaders stated they hope to provide a space for all levels of French speakers to improve their skill.
“I think all of us as a group aim to create a community for French speakers because I know there’s a lot of speakers in the school that don’t have people to talk with,” Zagorski said.
While the club is new, the student leaders have asserted that it is here to stay.
“I hope that this is something that goes on for many years. We want to pass on the leadership,” said junior Hugo Ratheau.
The club is sponsored by a new French teacher Mr. Clark, who has high hopes for the new club.
“I think it’s a great space for kids to have a space to come in a low-pressure environment, either to speak French or get help with their French homework,” Mr. Clark said.
Led by a dedicated student leadership team, the new Meridian High School French Club is a perfect opportunity to improve French skills and be immersed in French culture without leaving the comfort of Meridian High School.
