The dedicated and compassionate Ms. Anu Radha Ventraman recently took on a new role at Meridian: the attendance advisor.
Ms. Ventraman started as a substitute earlier in the school year, and she transitioned to her new position in February. Her primary focus is maintaining precise attendance records, ensuring they comply with school regulations and standards.
Ms. Ventraman’s favorite part of the job is interacting with students, listening to their stories, and forming connections with each individual. Despite the challenge of remembering all students’ names, Ms. Ventraman makes a concerted effort to greet and engage with every student who comes through the front office doors.
“I love meeting students and getting to know about their day. Each student has a unique story to tell and it is the highlight of my day,” Ms. Ventraman said.
While fulfilling, Ms. Ventraman admits her job is also challenging. Accurately making absences reported via voicemail or email and identifying students by their nicknames in the system are more difficult tasks.
“I am using a desktop, so it is three times slower than laptop models, and I need to mark your attendance records correctly. So when you need to enter your student number, wait for my confirmation,” she explained, “[The job] can be tough, but I see it as an opportunity to help students improve their attendance habits.”
Ms. Ventraman collaborates closely with administrators to offer the necessary support for students to enhance their attendance.
“Communication is key. By working together we can ensure every student receives the support they need.”
Ms. Ventraman’s approach to attendance goes beyond just names; she believes in building relationships with students to understand the root causes of their absences. By listening and offering support, she creates a safe space for students to express their challenges and concerns.
“I see each student as an individual with unique circumstances. My goal is to help them overcome obstacles and succeed academically,” Ms. Vetraman shared.
In addition to her role as an attendance advisor, Ms.Ventraman is actively involved in organizing school-wide initiatives to promote attendance and student engagement. From incentive programs to awareness campaigns, she leads efforts to create a positive attendance culture within the school. Ms. Ventraman’s creativity and dedication shine through these projects, inspiring both students and staff to prioritize regular attendance.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Ms. Ventraman is known for her warm and approachable personality, making her a trusted mentor for students seeking guidance. Whether it’s offering academic advice or simply listening to students, Ms. Ventraman’s genuine care and empathy leave a lasting impact on those around her.
