On Saturday, May 11, Cherry Hill Park was adorned with purple, white, and gold to celebrate women’s history. There were 67 “Herstory” stations posted all around the park with the pictures and stories of influential Falls Church women throughout history. Additionally, the historic barn was decorated for a ceremony honoring a group of women who have made a positive impact in the community. This year’s honorees include Betty Allan, Mary Gavin, Nancy Stock, Merelyn Kaye, Cindy Garner, Maureen Budetti, and Marian Costner Selby who was the very first African American to attend George Mason High School. The walk itself has been occurring yearly since its founding by Nikki Graves Henderson of the Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation in 2017. The Women’s History Group is the one responsible for the walk and they also research the stories featured in the “Herstory” stations.
