On Friday, March 11 the boys varsity basketball team stepped into VCU’s Siegel Center ready for battle against Greensville County High School in the state semi-final game.

Both teams fought to the end, even going into overtime after free-throw shots by Elliot Mercado that tied the game up.

The first minutes of overtime looked positive for Mason, with a solid 6 point lead, but as time progressed so did Greensville. Greensville County ended up hitting a game-winning 3-point shot that ended the game and the season for the Mustangs. Mason lost Virginia’s 2A state semi-final in a close battle, with a final score of 63-66.
