Although winter this year is seeming to drag on for a lifetime, before we know it the end of the school year festivities will creep upon us. There is prom, IB Exams, SOLs, but most importantly graduation. After five years at GM, the Class of 2015 will be walking down DAR Constitution Hall to receive their high school diploma. With less than a 100 days before the big day, details below will help families and students prepare for graduation festivities.
As said above graduation will be held at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC with the ceremony at 5pm. In arriving Constitution Hall, seniors will be bused to the ceremony by the school after a pizza lunch and graduation ceremony rehearsal. All seniors are required to ride the bus. For families getting to the ceremony, parking is available but it is somewhat minimal.
“Families can park their own cars but parking can be difficult unless they part in a parking garage which is located a couple of blocks away. Some do choose to ride the metro,” said head of counseling department Amy Kurjanowicz.
The graduation ceremony is typically about two hours long with the annual commencement speech, and calling the names of each graduate to cross the stage. This year the commencement speech will be by senior writer of Sports Illustrated Michael Farber.
Graduation is a hot ticket at this point in the year, and most families filled with parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, etc. all want to attend. Fortunately, tickets are free and unlimited. Seniors will be given a form to fill out requesting the amount of tickets he/she wants.
After the ceremony, graduates will go home with their families. Graduates typically have dinner with their parents, and then later that night attend the All Night Grad celebration.
