The answers you’ve been waiting for are finally here! Lasso reporters Eliza Bonilla and Eva Ellis asked JLine your questions, here are his responses.
How did the idea for “JLine” form? -Zehra Khan
My stage name “JLine” is a combination of my first name and last name. People were always mispronouncing my last name when introducing me before shows so I chose JLine as an easier way for people to pronounce and remember my name.
What is your real name? -Anonymous
Jim
What made you choose to wear that particular style of clothing during your performance? -Anonymous
I look for clothes that are comfortable, that we can all dance in and that will pop onstage. I feel that our current costumes do that.
Where do you get your haircuts from? -Graham Terry
I actually usually cut my hair myself!
How do you pick your backup dancers? -Zehra Khan
I hold auditions in New York City about twice a year looking for dancers. Once they audition, I rehearse with the ones I’ve chosen to see if they will be a good fit for my choreography and live show.
How are Alicia and Jordan? -Clara Matton
They are great. I haven’t seen them in a few months, but we always keep in touch when we are not performing together.
If you won a Grammy what would you do/ how would you react? Also, can you mention me in your acceptance speech? -Haley Zullo
Winning a Grammy would feel like a great accomplishment and after thanking my family, my friends, and everyone who has helped me, I would thank you as well.
What advice do you have to an up and coming “keytaurist” (combination guitar/keyboard) like me? -Eric Lowery
The only way to get really good at anything is to practice all the time. When I’m on tour, obviously I see performing as my version of getting better at what I do and constantly trying to improve. When I’m not on tour, I’m taking dance classes, writing music, in the recording studio, choreographing, editing videos, etc. I’m always trying to get better at what I do.
How do you keep your content fresh and relatable? -Declan Snitzer
I work really hard on trying to pick the right songs for my live shows and mixing up the cover songs and making them my own. I also work really hard on the choreography as well so it will be interesting, high energy, and most of all that makes me happy to be performing it. After performing the same song almost 60 times on tour, I want to make sure I don’t get sick of it.
When will your next album be released? – Anonymous
I actually just released an updated version of my album “Epic” with two new tracks that are out now on iTunes!
Do you plan to make a return visit to GMHS? If yes, when? -Zehra Khan
We would love to come back and preform. We are always booked by the faculty for a school show, so hopefully they will invite us back soon!
What would you do if you had three wishes?
- To be a hugely successful recording artist who tours the world
- To not have to worry about money ever again
- To be able to do what I love and share it with people for as long as I desire
Were you doing the voice-over with yourself during the performance? -Anonymous
Yes
What’s your favorite song you’ve written? -Anonymous
Usually songs that speak about my personal experiences are my favorite. Songs like “Tragic” and “Ready Set Go” are among my favorites.
Would you love to see your fans attempt your dance moves? Would you ever do dance tutorials with us? -Essence Bailey
I have so many things I still want to do and uploading dance tutorials is definitely one of those things! I hope to get that done soon!
How do you handle the stress of constantly traveling around the United States and the lack of sleep? How do you still perform your best? -Anonymous
That is a great question, since I just got back from a three week tour. I’m not going to lie, usually performing is the easiest thing I do on tour. What does get me exhausted is the endless drives, the stress of not being in your own “space” and hoping nothing will go wrong (flat tire, a show gets canceled, bad weather, etc. ) But I have learned to breathe through the difficult days and remind myself this is what I always wanted to. And I train really hard to make sure, if i’m exhausted, that I can still perform the best I can every time I go onstage.
Do you play any instruments? -Anonymous
I play piano, and have since I was 7 years old.
Whats the best moment you’ve had while performing? -Carlos Mercado
I don’t have one moment that stands out, but I do know when I have the feeling that the audience is with us and throwing so much energy, theres no better feeling. Those moment make me feel like I’m exactly where I should be.
