On short Wednesdays, blocks that are normally about an hour and 40 minutes long are 20 minutes shorter. Lunch period is the same, but there is no Mustang block. School ends an hour and 10 minutes earlier than normal days.

Students have different opinions on what they think about short Wednesdays. Many students in different grades were asked what their opinions are on short Wednesdays.

Students who like short Wednesdays like them for the following reasons:

  1. Having time to take a break before sports practices
  2. Going home early
  3. Shorter classes

And students who don’t enjoy short Wednesdays don’t for the following reasons:

  1. Having time to take a break before sports practices
  2. Going home early
  3. Shorter classes

There were also several students who said that they don’t mind having short Wednesdays. Read their reponses:

LIKE

“I like short Wednesdays. They give me time to sleep before [sports] practice and still get homework done. You can’t really get too much done in Mustang block so I don’t think it’s that big a deal to lose it,” said junior Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong.

“In my opinion, short Wednesdays give me relief from the normal long days of school. I like to have a shorter day,” said sophomore Anna Sawyer.

“I like short Wednesdays because although the classes might not actually be that much shorter than normal days, I feel like the classes aren’t as long,” said sophomore Lena Burleson.

“In general I like short Wednesdays because they give me a little extra time to get work done and relax before going to sports practice in the afternoons. But I think short Wednesdays can be an inconvenience if a student has after school activities requiring teachers, as they have meetings until after three, and younger students in particular often have no means of transportation to go home and then come back to school later,” said senior Arijeet Sensharma.

I DO NOT MIND

“At first I didn’t really like them, mainly because it meant that I couldn’t study a bit more before a test and I couldn’t ask teachers for help on stuff. But now I really don’t mind them, unless I like planned to talk to a teacher on that day and then it’s like, “It’s a short Wednesday!” said sophomore Ethan Keck.

DON’T LIKE

  1. Not having time to talk to teachers and study for exams
  2. Losing Mustang blocks
  3. Waiting after school until sports practices start

“I would prefer not having short Wednesdays because I feel like they aren’t very useful at all. I don’t see any advantages of it besides the fact that we get out of school one hour earlier. Disadvantages are that we have no Mustang block which is inconvenient because there are days when you really need to go to teachers,” said sophomore Esther Kim.

“So I don’t like short Wednesdays. Of course, I lose my Mustang block, but the most frustrating thing is that the library is closed after school, and I have to stay for track practice, so I don’t have many places to get my homework done. I do like though that some classes are shorter,” said junior Dorian Charpentier.

“I’m not a huge fan of short Wednesdays. I don’t like how we basically only lose Mustang block, which makes it harder to get homework done and to study for tests. They also make waiting around for sports practices really frustrating,” said senior Anna Rice.

“I don’t see any convenience to it. Maybe it’s just coincidence but it just happens so that every time I have an exam or homework to complete or study for, it’s short Wednesday,” said senior Haewon Jeong.
