TOP 5
- Lassoing his date to prom: Melissa Johnson and Frank Williamson
Junior Frank Williamson’s promposal to junior Melissa Johnson was filled with creativity; as Williamson presented an originally drawn replica of the cover of the Washington Post using the headline to write “Melissa Will You Go to Prom With Me?”
“I knew how much Melissa loved journalism and The Lasso, so I figured there would be no other appropriate way to ask other than via a front page headline from the best paper in America,” said Williamson.
- Trapping his prom date: Zach Welch and Caroline Stricker
Taking advantage of one pop cultures newest hip hop hits, Trap Queen by Fetty Wap, junior Zach Welch asked junior Caroline Stricker to prom with a literal trap (though she was not actually caught). Welch then topped off the promposal with driving by in a car with Trap Queen blaring and finally hopping out of car with flowers and sign.
“[My promposal] was inspired by the desire to become twitter famous, which resulted in a high level of creativity on my part,” said Welch.
- Serenading his prom date by singing: Emma Whitaker and Matt Valley
Senior Matt Valley’s promposal to senior Emma Whitaker consisted of an original song he wrote and played on the guitar.
“It was like in the movies,” said Whitaker. “I couldn’t hear the lyrics because I was so freaked out. It was really original and personal, and it really surprised me”
- Trumpeting his way to capture his date: Beamlak Hailemariam and Anna Rice
Senior Beamlak Hailemariam asked senior Anna Rice to prom by working off of a senior night dress up theme for the track team (gods and goddesses), by dressing up as Poseidon. Hailemariam knew of Anna’s participation on the George Mason swim team, and by him dressing up as the God of the Sea, Hailemariam connected the two by writing on a poster “Anna I heard you are one fast fish in the sea, will you swim to prom with me?” Hailemariam entered into the classroom by a grand entrance with senior Arijeet Sensharma assisting by playing the trumpet.
“I did my promposal during block 3 so I had to do everything fast, but it worked out in the end,” said Hailemariam.
- Strictly right out of the fairytale books, slaying a dragon for his prom date: Zach Ellis and Callie Gaskins
Junior Zach Ellis asked Junior Callie Gaskins by staging a scene of Zach slaying a dragon trying “attack” Gaskins. With the help of a few friends and a script, Ellis had friend lure Calle into the English hallway where he implemented the plan.
“I wrote the script, cast my friends in all the roles, and made sure I had all the materials,” said Ellis. “It went really well and I was surprised to see how many people showed up to see it.”
With these unique and fun promposals, prom night is bound to be a fun night to dance the night away.
