The pass was thrown a little short for the Mason varsity football team’s season. Despite last season’s record of 8-3 and a playoff run, this year’s team finished their season with a record of 2-7.
“I think that we did really well… we never had a full team after the second win,” head coach Tony Green said.
Mason won two games against Rappahannock County (34-0), and Sidwell Friends (49-29). After the second win, multiple injuries, more specifically concussions, caused the team some problems. Still, the team displayed that they wouldn’t go down without a fight.
“My favorite memory is when we came back [from a deficit and won] against Sidwell Friends,” junior Henry Casillas said.
One of Mason’s wins, and season highlights, was a rebound game. After being down in the first half, the Mustangs came back, ending the game with a 20 point lead. “I think it showed a lot about our team and our character,” Green said.

The Mason JV football team closed their season with an 1-5-1 record with one tie with William Monroe. The team is there to prepare these players for the coming years on varsity football and how to work as a team to be successful.

“I wouldn’t do anything differently. I thought we were prepared, I think that the kids worked hard, and I thought that we practiced hard,” Coach Green said.
