Economy Party Supplies & Costumes, a party supply store located in Falls Church, brings to mind childhood memories for every FCCPS student; especially considering that it has been in operation for 28 years – longer than even the GM seniors have been alive. Unfortunately for our collective childhood memories, the store will close on Christmas Eve of this year.
“It’s been here since I was a child, and I worked there. It’s so sad that it’s about to close,” junior Anja Boneau said.
Economy Party Supplies & Costumes is most known for their wide selection of costumes, makeup, wigs, and masks. They also sell halloween decorations, balloons, cards, candy, and other supplies.
Not just the visitors are at loss, but the workers are too.
The reason for their closing is that, sadly, the owner and founder: Jim Lahey, recently passed away.
Additionally, according to Diane Lahey, the store’s co-owner and Jim Lahey’s wife, online shopping has made it harder for businesses to continue because many people would rather sit at home and order new products instead of walking to stores to buy them.
On top of those reasons, the store’s five year lease is up.
“It’s just the right time, it didn’t make sense to renew a lease for another five years,” Diane Lahey said.
To prepare for its closing, Economy is having a sale until everything is sold. As more days go by, everything is getting cheaper and cheaper. Students looking for a walk down memory lane should hurry to Economy Party Supplies & Costumes for great deals before it closes once and for all.
