In this series by Lasso editor, Kate Karstens, well-known senior iconic duos in Mason are featured. This week, the spotlight is on Jack Fletchall and Andrew Connelly. If you believe that you are a member of an iconic duo or know of one, please email [email protected].
You may have seen Jack and Andrew throw erasers to each other behind their 2nd grade teacher’s back or behind their current teacher’s back last week. It’s also just as likely that you can count on one hand the number of times you’ve seen Jack without Andrew or vice versa. They don’t plan to change that anytime soon.
On first impressions:
Jack: Funny story. I went to St. James and I only knew Gavin Tomchick, who was on my soccer team. I came to TJ, and Andrew and Gavin sat next to each other the first day of school.
Andrew: Me and Gavin were bros so we sat next to each other. Jack was just sitting there.
Jack: I hated you.
On why they are friends:
Jack: Andrew is a lot smarter than I am. Whenever we’re together, I can ask him anything and he will know the answer. For example, we were on the Metro, and I was about to vomit…
Andrew: I was about to vomit too.
Jack: And then I asked Andrew how many stops we had, and then he said “four”. He’s got the world’s greatest mind.
On fears:
Jack: Andrew’s biggest fear is probably having to ski for the rest of his life. Or having to listen to my taste in music.
Andrew: Jack’s biggest fear is actually having to do his own homework.
Jack: That’d be the worst.
On comparisons to Mason teachers:
Jack: Andrew is Mr. Whitcomb.
Andrew: Come on.
Jack: I’m saying that because I think Mr. Whitcomb has a good personality, he’s funny and super smart. Maybe Mr. Lahy because they’re both always looking to help out.
Andrew: Jack is whoever is the hottest teacher in this school.
On perfect girlfriends:
Jack: Someone who likes him more than me. Someone who doesn’t take him for granted.
Andrew: Someone who sees the bright side of Jack, which is his happy-go-lucky demeanor. He has a lot of good characteristics, a happy-go-lucky attitude…a willingness to pay for me.
On trips:
Andrew: We’re going to Europe.
Jack: We’re going in April. It’ll be just us. Oh, and Andrew’s uncle.
Andrew: We deserve a nice getaway.
On celebrity comparisons:
Jack: Jerry Seinfeld and George Costanza. Half of our inside jokes come from Seinfeld anyways and our banter reflects that.
Andrew: George Washington and his wife. He was the world’s greatest mind so he’s similar to myself. And his wife is always with him, so that’s Jack.
On advice:
Jack: I encourage Andrew to hang out with us. I really push for him to come do something. I’ll be like ‘Fine I’ll pay.’
Andrew: I always tell him to quit stalking [girls] on Instagram.
On middle school memories:
Jack: We made a football team.
Andrew: It was just the two of us.
