In an effort to score on the varsity Mason boys lacrosse team, you have to go through one of the strongest defenders in the area: Reed Bond. And chances are you won’t get through. Bond is a junior and is leading not only the defense, but the rest of the team into a winning season, if Bond’s predictions prove correct. His tenacity and talent is what makes him The Lasso’s player to watch for the 2017 season.
“I’m hoping for a better team record…a winning season. I’ll keep a lockdown on defense and lead the team as captain,” Bond said.
Bond has been a varsity starter since freshman year and is also a starting member of the Cavalier Lacrosse club team. He is looking to play lacrosse at the Division 3 level and is currently talking to Roanoke, Randolph Macon, and University of Mary Washington.
“We have a solid defense, and I have the skills and mentality of a defender that really controls the flow of the game,” Bond said.
Assistant Coach William Stewart elaborated on the necessity of Bond’s presence on the field, crediting him for countless ground balls and fast breaks.
“He’s a leader on the defensive side and he helps other players get in the right positions, along with the goalie,” Stewart said. “He’s a very skilled player.”
Bond’s teammates look to him to keep the defense strong and focused.
“When we’re in the game, he’s really focused and does his job well,” said senior teammate, Rory O’Hanlon.
You can catch Reed Bond in action at his season home opener on March 14 against Thomas Jefferson High School at 7:30 p.m.
