Going into a season with the loss of a majority of the starting roster can be nerve wracking for some, but for senior Zach Lang, it is just a calling to work harder and lift his teammates up even more.
“As a team, I am hoping to be able to fill all the spots that we have open from the seniors we lost and make it into the regional and even state playoff tournaments,” Lang said.
Lang has been chosen as The Lasso’s player to watch for the 2017 season, and for a good reason. With teammates and coaches, Lang has a stellar reputation on and off the field, and has held it throughout his four years on the varsity baseball team.
“He’s pretty experienced,” varsity baseball head coach Adam Amerine said. “He’s been around for a while, so he understands how we do things.”
In addition to his keeping his teammates in the right mindset, Lang’s .327 batting average and .444 base percentage prove his promising ability to lead the team through a winning season. He also was named a First Team All Conference player in the 2016 season.
“You could say he’s how an ideal baseball player should be, or at least how a leader of a baseball team should be,” freshman Cale Reinfurt said. “He’s just a player we can’t go without, he’s a game changer.”
See Lang and his team kick-off their first season home opener on March 16 against Rappahannock County at 7:00 p.m.
