The LiNK Club, led by Mason students Esther Kim and Ellen Rhee and sponsored by Ms. Tracey Vandernaald, raises monetary funds to support North Korean refugees. At the end of each school year, the club sends the funds to the LiNK HQ in California.
Throughout the year the LiNK Club has held many fundraisers and events. So far they have hosted a raking fundraiser, which helped raise around $300, and held multiple bake sales at Mason. In November, the club sold hand made pocky sticks. In addition, private donations are collected on their online fundraising page.
Meeting every two weeks, the nine regular LiNK club members present information regarding the situation in North Korea and the missions of LiNK organization. They also brainstorm ideas for future fundraisers.
The LiNK club has had success, raising a total of $700 last year; enough to provide transportation and basic needs for one refugee.
Like most small clubs, head Esther Kim says “There is still room for more improvement for our club.”
