2017 was a very interesting year for music. Artists like Ed Sheeran and Kendrick Lamar released new albums furthering their music careers. Harry Styles released his first solo album following the split up of the pop band, One Direction in 2016. And everyone still has “Despacito” (by Luis Fonsi) stuck in their heads.
As this year comes to an end, students at George Mason are reviving old music from the past 12 months.
Like most of my peers, I create a new playlist each year to remember the music and memories associated with that part of my life. This is the same for monthly playlists and sometimes even a large playlist for an entire year of music.
People have different ways of remembering their music. “I kind of just add songs that I find to one playlist then go back to where I started adding from that year and listen from that point on,” senior Nicole Micelli said.
Spotify shows the exact date you save a specific song to your library or add it to a playlist so it is easy to go back and find songs from a specific time period, and even nicer to look back at reminisce.
Of the students we spoke with, popular artists from 2017 were Post Malone, Panic! At the Disco and The Chainsmokers.
“Honestly even though I love The Chainsmokers, [my favorite song from 2017] would have to be ‘Closer’,” said senior Michael Torres.
2018 probably has some amazing music in store for music lovers, so keep your ears peeled.
