The following presentation is a compilation of information about the demographics of George Mason High School??s clubs. The trends depicted in the following charts are drawn from a survey sent out to club leaders.
The Lasso sent a survey to a sample of fourteen clubs. Therefore, the data does not represent the entire club population, but it provides an indication of its demographics as a whole. Additionally, the survey asked for estimates, not exact numbers, so the exact percentages were not written down for the charts because they would be insignificant. However, the results can be used to approximate or garner a general understanding of the demographics present throughout Mason??s various clubs. (All graphics designed?by Dorian Charpentier)
The first noticeable trend above is that, as students spend more years at Mason, they participate in more clubs. This holds true until senior year, where a drop occurs. The fall in participation for seniors might result from new priorities arising during the last year of high school.More female students are represented in clubs than male students. The difference is even more pronounced if the data is filtered for clubs that participate in service.Club officers know that they sign up more people at the club fair in the beginning of the year than will ever come to meetings. The average conversion factor is 42%.A plurality of clubs meets on Tuesdays. Mason club members are sometimes confronted with the decision of which meeting to attend when multiple meetings are scheduled at the same time.Mason clubs seem as likely to host meetings after school as they are during Mustang Block. Finding a slot that pleases everyone is difficult because of the sheer number of activities people participate in. Meetings after school have the drawbacks of being close to athletic activities and of forcing some to take the late bus. On the other hand, some might try to work during Mustang Block, so clubs must find a suitable time.Clubs attempting to draw more people will have more success if they meet during Mustang Block. The conversion factor from sign-up to member is of nearly half for clubs in this case. The same conversion is of only a third for clubs meeting after school.
