Spring 2015 feels like it??s finally settling in, as the heat gets higher and the trees grow greener. As a way to celebrate this lovely weather, take a day to see the Cherry Blossoms in DC.
The expected forecasts for the peak of the bloom is April 9-14.
Along with the blossoms is the National Cherry Blossom Festival, a not-for-profit organization that features a parade, fireworks, concerts, and special exhibits related to the cherry blossoms and U.S. and Japanese relations.
The festival is typically scheduled around the average peak bloom date.
National Park Service rangers also conduct free walking tours of the trees that are scheduled throughout the day during the bloom. These informal walks can be found around the MLK Memorial, the FDR Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial.
In 1912, as a symbol of friendship, Americans and Japanese diplomats planted the cherry trees along the tidal basin in DC. In Japan, the cherry blossom is associated with the evanescence of human life and beauty.
By May, the cherry blossoms will be gone, so make sure you stop by to enjoy the flowers.
