Band students sport Mickey Mouse ear headbands before their trip to Orlando this weekend. This band trip was rescheduled from the original, scheduled in 2020 but canceled due to COVID-19. “It’s a reward for their hard work,” band director MaryJo West said.

The Meridian went to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida to participate in a music performance and technical production. The plane full of students departed Jan. 29 and returns on Feb. 1.

“It’s a reward for their hard work,” band director MaryJo West said.

The band played in a two-and-a-half hour workshop outside EPCOT on Sunday at a Disney music studio with music producers. At the conclusion, they will play a famous soundtrack to the backdrop of one of Disney’s hits.

After being canceled in 2020, the students are finally taking their long-awaited trip. This trip, which took place annually before the pandemic, was a great bonding experience for band students who might not see each other outside of a music class.

Many band students planned their cohorts to adventure around the park. Some popular destinations include Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios and Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom.

“The band students are a really close community,” West said. “They enjoy being together.”
