12. Kim Kardashian wearing Marilyn Monroe’s dress to the Met Gala

At the 2022 Met Gala, Kim Kardashian turned heads when she arrived in Marilyn Monroe’s notorious “Happy Birthday Mr. President” dress. This dress was lent to Kim by Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, a museum valued at 4.8 million. Thousands of people found this display disrespectful and even accused Kim of destroying the historic dress, adding some controversy to the already contentious event.  

 

11. Heidi Klum’s worm Halloween costume

Heidi Klum has been known to show up and show out every Halloween. This year she left us all shocked when she displayed her realistic worm costume at her annual Halloween party. This costume completely took the world by storm. 

 

10. Rihanna’s Pregnancy announcement

On January 31, pop sensation Rihanna and A$AP Rocky announced their unexpected pregnancy. Rihanna showcased this debut wearing a vintage pink Chanel blazer, paired with $20,000 worth of jewelry over her baby bump. 

 

9. The Green M&M deyassified

The notorious candy brand, Mars, took away the green M&M’s classy go-go girl look, instead giving her some crusty sneakers. Bad news for feminist icons everywhere.

 

8. Eugene in the Try Guys scandal

This year revealed many celebrity cheating scandals, like Ned Fulmer from the popular group Try Guys. Through it wasn’t Ned who was getting all the attention, it was actually Eugene Lee Yang’s reaction to the whole situation that captivated the audience. While filming their video about the scandal, many fans had an excited reaction to Eugene’s entire outfit and expressions throughout the video. 

 

7. Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian

Shortly after Kim’s appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” she was spotted sneaking around with comedian Pete Davidson. In 2022, the two became much more serious and announced their relationship to the world. This sent Kim’s ex-husband Ye West into a fit of rage, sparking a Twitter battle between the two men. 

 

6. Elon Musk buys Twitter 

On April 27, Elon Musk began buying shares of the huge social media platform Twitter. He paid a crisp 44 billion dollars to be the owner of the platform. Musk then announced his plan to charge $20 a month for the coveted blue check mark to appear on one’s account. Musk also made it his goal to ban comedian Kathy Griffen from the platform because she was making fun of him. 

 

5. Depp vs. Heard 

The trial between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard captivated millions. Depp sued Heard for defamation because Heard had accused Depp of abusing her throughout their marriage. She was the victim of millions of memes and TikToks mocking her throughout the trial, as a conversation was had across social media platforms about the ethics of the situation. 

 

4. New season of “Euphoria”

On January 9, the long-awaited second season of HBO’s “Euphoria” dropped. This season had millions of iconic moments that left its audiences completely shocked. After this season dropped, Barbie Ferreira announced her resignation from the show due to conflicts with the director. 

 

3. The return of “Stranger Things”

On May 27, the popular show “Stranger Things” returned for its fourth season. After three long years of waiting for the show, fans were graced with volume one of the fourth season. This season featured many iconic moments and many infamous characters.

 

2. Trisha Paytas gives birth to Malibu Barbie

On September 14, YouTube star Trisha Paytas gave birth to her first child and named her Malibu Barbie. Trisha Paytas gave birth a few days after the Queen’s death, leading many of her fans to believe Trisha’s baby was the reincarnation of Queen Elizabeth II.

On September 18th, the United Kingdom suffered the loss of its longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. At 96 years old, the queen passed away of old age. After she passed, her eldest son King Charles claimed the throne at 74. Rest in peace, Queen. Literally.
