The riveting 2025-26 NFL season has given football fans plenty of nail-biting moments, ultimately leading to the Super Bowl finale. On Sunday, Feb. 8, for the second time in NFL history, the New England Patriots will face off against the Seattle Seahawks for the title of Super Bowl Champion. If they win, the Patriots will be the first team in history to claim seven Lombardi trophies, while the Seahawks will try to avenge their infamous Super Bowl XLIX loss via Russell Wilson’s game-losing interception on the goal line.
The Seahawks are entering the game as heavy favorites, many analysts believing they are the better team. They clinched the #1 seed in the NFC and enjoyed a bye week during the first round of the playoffs. Their first game back, they obliterated their division rival San Francisco 49ers by a score of 41-6.
In the NFC championship, they played the Los Angeles Rams, a division rival. This game was much closer, but Seattle stole the win late in the game, emerging victorious, 31-27. Quarterback Sam Darnold led the way with a phenomenal game, notching 346 yards and 3 touchdowns. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba received most of Darnold’s passes, hauling in 10 catches for a whopping 153 yards and a touchdown. Running back Kenneth Walker III also posted a solid performance, with 62 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Seattle’s playoff run was impressive and silenced a lot of doubters. However, the Patriots’ path to the big game only made fans less confident in their ability to win. New England’s formula for success this year has been simple: Drake Maye. The sophomore quarterback has enjoyed an MVP-level year, and led the Patriots to an incredible 14-3 record and the #2 seed in the AFC. Their competition in the playoffs has been subpar, to say the least. Beginning in the Wildcard round, they played the #7 seeded Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers offensive line is one of the worst in the NFL, and the Patriots easily rolled past them by a score of 16-3, despite a deficient performance from Maye.
Their game against the Houston Texans went similarly, with the Patriots pass rush dominating a bottom-of-the-barrel offensive line. The Patriots won 28-16, with their defense scoring a crucial touchdown. Maye fumbled the ball four times, and was lucky to only lose two of them to the Texans.
They moved on to the AFC Championship, where many believed they would fall to the #1 seeded Denver Broncos. But before the game, Broncos starting quarterback Bo Nix was ruled out with a broken ankle, leaving backup Jarret Stidham to start. Aside from one drive, Stidham played poorly, and the Patriots won 10-7. Maye completed less than half his passes, only throwing for 86 yards. He accounted for the Patriots only touchdown on the ground, but it’s clear that the Patriots cannot continue to count on Maye.
This makes it difficult to see a scenario where the Patriots wind up winning this game. Unless Maye finds his regular season form once again, the team will be playing with one hand tied behind their back. The Patriots defense will have to exceed all expectations against a Seattle offense that is in top form to have a chance of winning. Even if the game is a defensive battle, the Seahawks would be much more likely to break through and score points than the Patriots would be.
For these reasons, I believe that the Seahawks will handedly win this game, 27-16. Led by their incredible defense and electric offense, they should be able to take care of business and earn their franchise’s second Super Bowl title.
