Graduating with an IB diploma is an outstanding achievement, and who better to offer advice than those who’ve successfully completed the challenging program? The Lasso had the privilege of speaking with some alumni who were kind enough to share their IB experience. The perspectives offer insights for current and future IB students aiming to pursue the most challenging courses at Meridian.
The alumni agreed that the tough courses they endured in high school paid off as they concluded their first collegiate semester.
“The IB Diploma really helped me feel prepared for college. The workload transitioning to college is similar so far,” alum Jamie Friedlander said.
The efforts of their back-breaking coursework delivered essential analytical and critical thinking skills, enhancing each student’s preparedness and productivity levels for the future.
“I did the IB Career Path Diploma, and I really liked it because I was able to use my Sports Med background and gain credit for the courses I enjoyed,” alum Jordan Sussman said. “I was able to apply that knowledge to my overall academic career, which then helped me get into a program in college that I really enjoyed.”
The IB Diploma comes across as intimidating to many students because of the workload and rough classes. However, this can only be decided determind you’ve experienced it first hand.
“The IB diploma was overall really good. I found a lot of value in the work that I did,” alum Eudora Neil noted. “A lot of people overreact about the IB diploma, they make it seem worse than it is. Just do your best. You’ll be fine. Try not to stress out too much.”
Stress management skills played an important role throughout the program, making it a recurring subject among the alumni.
“I would say my experience was easier than most. I think a lot of people make it out to seem like it’s extremely hard, or exaggerate the IB diploma,” alum Hugo Ratheau recalled. “It’s not that bad if you pace yourself, and get everything done in time. It’s not a hurdle.”
As future students navigate through the IB Diploma program, it is important to remember crucial advice from alumni, which offers valuable insights. The return of the class of ‘25 is a reminder that IB isn’t just about the diploma. It is about how it prepares you for your life after high school.
