Last Sunday on January 11th, Nikki Glaser hosted the 83rd annual Golden Globe Awards. Although the event proved to be an exciting night for fashion and movie enthusiasts around the globe, the red carpet fashion at the awards received very mixed reviews from critics. From outfit standouts to slip-ups, the fashion at the 2026 Golden Globes was anything but boring. Although not all attendants were considered poorly dressed, looks differed greatly for each attendant.

One standout look from the night was Jenifer Lawarence’s sheer Givenchy gown embellished with floral details. The actress stunned in the gown as she celebrated her nomination for “Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama” for her role in Die My Love alongside Robert Pattinson.
Meridian senior Ashe Stoner also found the dress to stand out on the carpet, saying “I think the dress looks stunning and the flower detailing looks really good.”

Actress Julia Roberts received some mild criticism for her custom Armani Privé, as many thought the look was playing it a bit too safe. Although the actress accessorized the look with an eye-catching Swarovski necklace, the look was a bit dull. Roberts was nominated for “Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama” for her role in After the Hunt.
Senior Ainsley Gorman agreed that there was room for improvement, stating: “It’s a bit boring, but it’s Julia Roberts, so I think it looks fine.”

One of the standout looks of the night was worn by Teyana Taylor, who wore a stunning Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown. The dress featured a dramatic cutout which transitioned into the dress’s train, and on the back a dazzling Tiffany&Co bejeweled bow.
Taylor took home the Golden Globe for her “Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture” for her role in One Battle After Another, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.
“I think the way that they did the back with how it kinda cascades down is really nice.” says sophomore Vivienne Lam.

Actress and singer Jenifer Lopez wore a vintage Jean-Louis Scherrer look with Sabyasachi jewelry. The look was considered controversial, as many found the look to be too revealing for the event. Although many found this to be the main fault in Lopez’s look, others believe that the main fault of the outfit is the pattern of the dress, which distracts from its dramatic train.
“She was really trying to do something with that,” remarked Senior George Watka on Lopez’s scandalous red carpet look. When asked if she succeeded, Watka replied “No, she didn’t.”
While the red carpet looks at the 83rd annual Golden Globe Awards had both hits and misses, the event is still one of the most talked about fashion events of the year. As the Oscars and Grammys will take place soon after the awards, only time will tell where entertainment award fashion will go in 2026.
